Department of History
The Department of History was established in 1962 with the objective of providing quality education in history and developing student’s critical thinking analytical skills and historical awareness. Since its inception the development has made significant contributions to academic excellence and has been served by distinguished teaches including Prof. S.G. Ijeri (1968-71), Prof. M.S. Kalaburgi (1971-95) and Dr. B.G. Aski (1987-2019) their dedicated service laid a strong foundation for the departments growth and reputation.
At present the department is leaded by Dr. R.H. Sajjan, who serves as the Head of the department of History and Archaeology. He has been serving as an Associate Professor since 2008 and is also a recognized Research Guide at Kannada University, Hampi Guiding scholars in historical research under his leadership the department has strengthened its academic and research activities.
The department is committed to promoting knowledge of Indian History, Society, Archaeology and Culture while encouraging students to develop a scientific and critical understanding of the past. It also houses an Archaeological Museum, established in 2016, which serves as a valuable learning resource for students. Through seminars, field visits, heritage awareness programmes, Certificate Courses and research- oriented activities, the department inspires students to appreciate India’s rich historical heritage and prepares them to face the challenges of a globalized world with confidence and knowledge.
