About the Department of Commerce

The Department of Commerce, one of the prestigious departments of the college, was established in 1979 with the introduction of the Pre-University Course (PUC). In 1981, the department expanded its academic offerings by introducing the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) programme to cater to the growing demand for quality commerce education among students from rural and surrounding areas. Since its inception, the department has been committed to providing value-based education, developing entrepreneurial abilities, and equipping students with the business knowledge and professional skills required in today's dynamic global economy.

The department is supported by a team of highly qualified, experienced, and dedicated faculty members who strive to provide an excellent learning environment through innovative teaching methods, academic mentoring, and student-centric learning. It is well-equipped with an extensive library of commerce and management books, computer facilities, journals, and other learning resources that enhance the academic experience of students.

The Department of Commerce has consistently maintained an excellent academic record, with more than 90% pass percentage in the university examinations every year. The department takes pride in nurturing competent graduates who pursue successful careers in business, banking, finance, accounting, taxation, entrepreneurship, and higher education.

A significant milestone in the department's academic journey was achieved when Kumari Shakuntala Shivayogi secured the 4th Rank in the Kitturu Rani Channamma University, Belagavi examinations for the academic year 2022–23, bringing great honour to the institution.

Beyond academics, the department actively encourages students to participate in cultural, literary, sports, and co-curricular activities at the college and university levels. Students have consistently won prizes in various competitions, reflecting their all-round development and leadership qualities.

To bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical exposure, the department regularly organizes industrial visits, field studies, and educational tours to industries, financial institutions, and business organizations. Notable visits include Kudagi Thermal Power Plant, Hatti Gold Mines, and several industrial and financial establishments, enabling students to gain valuable real-world insights into business operations and management practices.

The Department of Commerce remains dedicated to fostering academic excellence, ethical values, entrepreneurial thinking, and professional competence. It continues to empower students to become successful professionals, innovative entrepreneurs, responsible citizens, and future leaders capable of meeting the challenges of a rapidly evolving business environment.
