Department of Education

The Department of Education established in 1985, has played a significant role in promoting quality education and preparing socially responsible graduates initially introduced as a minor subject under Karnataka University, Dharwad, the department became one of the major optional subjects in social science from 1991, providing students in with a strong academic foundation in educational theory and practice.

Prof. B.S. Katageri is the founder of the Department of Education. He joined the department in 1985 the year it was established and served with dedication until his retirement in 2011. His visionary leadership, commitment to quality teacher education and valuable academic contributions laid a strong foundation for the departments growth and excellence.

The department is committed to its vision of enlightening rural students and contributing to focuses on empowering students with knowledge, skills, lifelong learning, personality development and global awareness through innovative teaching methods, ICT enabled learning, seminars, workshops, group discussions, field visits and project works, the department enhances students academic and professional competencies.

One of the major achievement is its consistent effort to improve students teaching, communication and leadership skills. Many graduates have successfully pursued higher education such as B.Ed, M.Ed and Research programmes while others have secured careers in teaching, educational administration, social services and government sectors.

The department actively participates in extension activities, awareness programmes and community outreach, fostering social responsibility among students with experienced faculty, student- centered teaching practices and a commitment to academic excellence, the department of education continuous to contribute significantly to the intellectual, personal and professional development of students a specially those from rural backgrounds.

At present the department is headed by Shri. Ashok Hadapad, he has serving as a Guest Faculty since 2025.
