About the Department

The Department of Hindi was established in the year 1968 with the introduction of Hindi as a Minor subject for the B.A. programme. Since its inception, the department has played an important role in promoting the study, understanding, and appreciation of Hindi language and literature among students.

In the beginning, Shri S. L. Patil served as the full-time Lecturer in Hindi and contributed to laying the foundation for the department. At present, Dr. Smt. Sumangala C. Angadi has been serving as Assistant Professor in Hindi since 26-07-2008. Her dedicated efforts have contributed to the academic growth of the department and the overall development of students.

The department aims to develop students' proficiency in Hindi language and their understanding of Hindi literature, culture, and society. Special emphasis is given to improving students' reading, writing, speaking, and communication skills and encouraging them to appreciate the richness of Hindi literary traditions.

Teaching and Learning

The department follows a student-centred approach to teaching and learning. Classroom teaching is supplemented with various academic and co-curricular activities to make the learning of Hindi interesting, meaningful, and practical.

Students are encouraged to participate in:

  • Seminars, group discussions, and presentations.
  • Special lectures on Hindi language and literature.
  • Project work and assignments.
  • Celebration of Hindi Diwas and other language-related programmes.

These activities help students improve their language skills, confidence, creativity, and appreciation of Hindi literature.

The Department of Hindi aims to:

National Level Online Seminar on “Bharatiya Gyan Parampara”

The Department of Hindi organized a National Level Online Seminar on “Bharatiya Gyan Parampara” on 29 September 2025. The seminar focused on the rich and diverse knowledge traditions of India and their relevance in the contemporary world.
