About the Department of Economics

The Department of Economics was established in 1968 with the objective of imparting quality education in Economics and promoting academic excellence among students. Since its inception, the department has played a significant role in developing students’ understanding of economic theories, public policies, and contemporary economic issues.

The department was founded by eminent teachers Prof. I. N. Shimpi and Prof. I. B. Udapudi, who laid a strong academic foundation for the department. Later, distinguished faculty members Prof. G. N. Tatti and Dr. B. A. Guli joined the department and contributed significantly to strengthening teaching, student mentoring, and academic activities.

At present, the department is headed by Dr. Krishnaji Dasar, who is committed to enhancing the quality of education through innovative teaching methods, research activities, seminars, workshops, industrial visits, and extension programmes. The department actively encourages students to develop analytical and critical thinking skills to understand national and global economic challenges.

The Department offers undergraduate courses in Economics as per the curriculum prescribed by Kitturu Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. It focuses on providing students with a strong theoretical foundation along with practical exposure through projects, field surveys, assignments, and skill-oriented activities.

The department is dedicated to producing socially responsible, ethically conscious, and professionally competent graduates who can contribute effectively to economic development and nation-building. It also supports the institution’s vision by promoting research, innovation, community engagement, and lifelong learning.
