DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY
The Department of Chemistry was established in 1988 with the inception of the Science Faculty at M.G.V.C. Arts, Commerce and Science College, Muddebihal, affiliated with Karnatak University, Dharwad, since its establishment and after 2010 it is affiliated with Kitturu Rani Channamma University Belagavi. The department has been committed to providing quality education in basic sciences to students, particularly those from educationally and economically disadvantaged rural backgrounds.
The department is committed to fostering innovation, scientific inquiry, ethical values, environmental responsibility, and lifelong learning. It aims to prepare graduates who are well-equipped for higher education, research, teaching, competitive examinations, and careers in industries such as pharmaceuticals, chemical manufacturing, food technology, agriculture, environmental science, analytical laboratories, and quality control.

Faculty Service Details:
The foundation of the department was laid by Shri S. M. Hiremath, the founder faculty member, served from 01/07/1983 to 31/07/2018, whose dedicated service significantly contributed to its growth. Over the years, the department has been strengthened by the valuable contributions of Shri C. S. Katageri and Shri A. S. Bagawan, who rendered distinguished service with commitment and excellence.
- Shri C. S. Katageri served the department from 16 August 1990 to 31 July 2025, making remarkable contributions to teaching, student development, and departmental progress.
- Shri A. S. Bagawan served from 15 June 1993 to 30 November 2025, contributing significantly to academic excellence and laboratory development.
- Shri U. A. Halyal has been serving the department since 2 July 2018 and is presently the Head of the Department of Chemistry, leading various academic and developmental initiatives.
- Miss S. R. Lingaraddi is currently serving as a faculty member of the Department of Chemistry and actively contributes to teaching, practical training, and student mentoring.
Infrastructure
The Department is equipped with:
- Two well-equipped Chemistry laboratories
- Modern laboratory instruments and glassware
- Spacious classrooms with ICT-enabled teaching facilities
- Support from the College Management and UGC for laboratory development
The laboratories provide excellent opportunities for practical learning, experimentation, and skill development.

The Department of Chemistry is equipped with a modern laboratory that provides students with hands-on practical experience in analytical, organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry. The laboratory is furnished with essential scientific instruments, glassware, and safety equipment to support undergraduate and postgraduate practical sessions, project work, and research activities.
